To recap: McCain 2010 says he was misled on the bailout because he was told that it was for the housing market, not financial institutions. McCain 2008 said the bailout was to "shore up" financial institutions, not the housing market, which he said would need support through separate measures.
Bottom-line: McCain 2008 knew exactly what the bailout was for and how it would be used. But now that it turns out to be unpopular, he's claiming that somebody lied to him about what it would be used for. Turns out, the opposite is true. The exact opposite. Link

McCain Rewrites Own History On Bailout Vote
McCain said recently that he only voted for the $700 billion package because Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke misled him, by assuring him it would focus on the housing meltdown, rather than on Wall Street. But that appears to be directly contradicted by the record.
In a speech the following day about improvements he was seeking to what became the TARP legislation, McCain made clear that he knew the measure was targeted at Wall Street, declaring: "No Wall Street executives should profit from taxpayer dollars ... The senior leaders of any firm that is bailed out should not be making more than the highest paid government official."

McCain's Shifting Reasons For Supporting DADT
In 2006, Senator John McCain gave this answer when asked about the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy:
We have to have the most effective and professional military that we can possibly obtain. I listen to people like General Colin Powell, Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and literally every military leader that I know. Link
But now that Powell and most of the other top military leaders support repealing DADT, McCain is on board with it right? Nope. Still a sore loser who will not support anything the President wants, even if it has the backing of the military.
