Ohio Republicans Crack Birther Jokes When Introducing Senate Candidate Rob Portman

Once again proving Republicans are children, ignorant and simply unfit to govern our country, two Ohio Republicans this past weekend made birther jokes questioning President Obama's citizenship status at a local fundraising dinner starring Senate candidate and former Bush administration official Rob Portman.

Here is the first joke from former state Rep. Jim Buchy:
"Lincoln was a skinny lawyer. Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln was a Republican. Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln was highly respected. Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln was born in the United States. Obama is a skinny lawyer."
Joke number two from State Rep. James Zehringer:
"Rob Portman is an American lawyer. That's the first sentence [on his Wikipedia page]. That's something our president can't say,"
The point here is that this is all Republicans have to offer. Un-American, grade-school jokes that aren't funny. The jokes themselves aren't even that offensive. What is offensive is that nearly half of Americans want to put these people back in power.

Senator Sherrd Brown Announces More Than $72 Million in New Federal Funds to Promote High-Tech Health Care in Ohio

Last week, Senator Brown announced more than $72 million in new federal funds to ensure that our state can employ health information technology and so that Ohioans are training for the health care jobs of the 21st century. "Ohio leads the nation in providing cutting-edge health care services and the industry is a major driver of Ohio’s economy," Brown said upon the announcement. "These funds will provide training to Ohioans so they can pursue good-paying, high-tech health care jobs and will ensure that our state utilizes the latest in cutting-edge health information technology. Health information technology helps reduce medical errors and improves patient care. By helping health care providers consult with one another through technology, we will improve the quality of medical care offered across our state – particularly in rural areas. And by helping medical facilities adopt new information technologies, we will reduce medical errors and lower health costs.

Ted Strickland Names Yvette McGee Brown as Running Mate for 2010

Governor Ted Strickland announced January 19 that President of the Center for Child and Family Advocacy and former Franklin County Judge Yvette McGee Brown will be his next Lieutenant Governor.

I know that Yvette will make a wonderful Lieutenant Governor because she's spent her entire life fighting for Ohio families. She is the daughter of a single mother who worked two jobs to support her family. Yvette found remarkable opportunities here in Ohio. She's taken those remarkable opportunities and used them, not to further her own goals, but to make life better for average Ohioans, especially our children.
